Northern Adirondack Central School District Ellenburgh Depot, NY
District-wide Capital Improvements
Renovations and additions essential to maintain school facilities and keep children safe, addressed inadequate space for educational and athletic programs. The completed project enhances both interior and exterior program spaces, tackles infrastructure maintenance and makes technology upgrades.
The original 1970’s construction left the middle/high school devoid of an appropriately scaled, identifiable and welcoming main entry. The design for the new main entrance includes an arched roof allowing for maximum southern orientation in a soaring two story space while simultaneously allowing for direct northern light filtering into the main offices from the back side of the arch. The new entry is immediately visible from the campus entry improving safety and allowing long views to the campus from the main office. The new main entry also functions as an inconspicuous security control point while safely segregating the middle school students from the high school student population.
Additional work included reconfiguration of the existing library, complete renovations to the natatorium including large north facing windows to take advantage of the classic rural views and athletic fields, and renovations to the main auditorium. Due to space constraints for extracurricular sports, a new multi-purpose gymnasium was created, featuring field accessible lavatories and a concession stand. A natural daylighting strategy on three sides of the gymnasium allow for activities in the space in most cases without the use of electric lighting.
New high-efficiency heating, plumbing, and lighting were incorporated throughout the district to improve overall health and safety, and reduce operating costs.
In-house services included Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management and Interior Design.
“CSArch can best be described as professional and committed to providing experienced and above and beyond service to our school district. The team of individuals working on our project is top-notch, and their ability to keep myself and the Board of Education informed has been excellent. The construction manager provides weekly updates, and we also meet bi-weekly to discuss owner issues, design issues, expenditures, and the timeline of the project.”
