CSArch Introduces Pilot Classrooms at Warrensburg CSD

The interior design team at CSArch recently introduced seven pilot classrooms at Warrensburg CSD in advance of a $13.5 million capital project. Developed through CSArch’s Furniture Pilot Program, the classrooms allow the district to test a variety of flexible furniture options before making a significant financial investment.

The shift toward active learning in the 21st century is driving significant changes in educational design. As schools move away from traditional, lecture-style instruction with one-directional rows of desks, the physical classroom space has evolved to support more collaborative, innovative, and flexible program delivery.

Flexible furniture selection plays a significant role in the adaptability of a classroom space to support different teaching and learning styles. But how does a district decide which furniture options are best for multiple teachers with diverse groups of learners?

The leadership team at Warrensburg CSD asked this same question when thinking about the design of their future CTE classroom, science labs, and collaboration workshop. To test a variety of furniture options without making a significant financial investment, the district introduced pilot classrooms through CSArch’s Furniture Pilot Program. The Furniture Pilot Program allows districts to “test drive” a variety of furniture solutions from multiple vendors on a trial basis. Given the vast number of furniture styles, colors, and materials available, teacher preferences, and differences in student learning needs, the pilot program makes it easy for districts to confidently choose furniture solutions based on actual experience.

Featuring soft bench seating, round and rectangular group tables, arched hightop tables, various seating options, and moveable desks, the pilot classrooms at Warrensburg CSD will be tested over a one year period to gauge student and teacher preferences before making the final selections.

    Legacy 2020 Project

    November 22, 2019

CSArch joined eager student athletes, administrators, teachers, and community members for a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the new, multi-purpose outdoor athletic complex at Queensbury UFSD. Kyle Gannon, Superintendent of Schools at Queensbury UFSD, regarded the new complex as a long-awaited addition to the school community, one that will impact athletic and physical education programs for years to come.

Approved by voters in December 2021 as part of a $19.75 million capital project, the use of synthetic turf will support longer yearly outdoor facility use, provide a safer, more weather-resilient playing surface, and better prepare student athletes for sectional and state-level contests. The multi-sport design of the new athletic fields will bolster all outdoor athletic programs at Queensbury UFSD while providing additional amenities for community use.

The ribbon cutting ceremony also marked the first official day that athletic teams were able to practice on the new fields. Students expressed their excitement to host home games under the lights with a new sense of pride in representing the Queensbury school community.

The new complex includes a multi-purpose, synthetic turf field lined for football, soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey, as well as additional turf fields for baseball and softball. A grandstand, new scoreboards, field lighting, and walkways surrounding the perimeter of the fields contribute to an inviting facility for community members to enjoy athletic contests.

High School Interns Merge Personal Experience and Local History with Design

    Legacy 2020 Project

    November 22, 2019

CSArch proudly concluded another successful internship with two high school students from North Colonie CSD and Schodack CSD. Our internship program has partnered with local school districts since the firm’s inception, providing students with the opportunity to explore a potential career in architecture and work among CSArch staff.

Claire Pulver, a senior from Maple Hill High School, and Abbigayle Gorman, a senior from Shaker High School, worked closely with internship coordinators Elizabeth Brutsch, Bill Preskenis, Musa Kanneh, and Kara Prack to learn the basics of architectural design and work in the Autodesk Revit software to develop their own design projects. This year, CSArch introduced Enscape, a rendering design software, into the internship program to help students realize their buildings’ potential. Claire and Abbigayle also selected actual sites and worked with our interior design department to select interior layouts and finishes.

Claire focused her project on the creation of a new fire station for her town where she used to volunteer, drawing inspiration from CSArch’s previous firehouse work to inform the design. Claire’s dad, a volunteer fireman, joined the critique panel to review her final project.

Influenced by the beauty and historic architecture of Saratoga, Abbigayle’s café design incorporated materials and historic elements representative of the City of Saratoga Springs. She also created an indoor garden dining experience to enhance the visitor experience.

“It was a pleasure working with both Abbigayle and Claire this semester,” said Bill Preskenis. “Their passion for design showed throughout the semester in their exemplary work and dedication to their design projects. We are thrilled they have both decided to pursue a professional career in architecture and look forward to witnessing their future success.”
