CAPITAL PROJECT

Pawling Central School District

CAPITAL PROJECT

Following an extensive planning and visioning process involving students, teachers, faculty, parents, and community members, Pawling CSD voters approved a $47.8 million capital improvement project.

CSArch has worked collaboratively and strategically to help our district move toward bringing the best designed and most cost-effective projects before our voters.”

Athletic Field

Phase 1 of the project, completed in 2023, constructed a multi-purpose athletic field, running track, bleachers, and press box. The field was designed with a synthetic turf surface for easy maintenance, extended use, and enhanced safety.

Secure Entrance and Main Office

A new main entrance and enclosed secure vestibule addition will allow office staff to safely screen visitors and control entry into the building. The existing library will be renovated into a new main office and nurse's suite, which will centralize support services and limit visitor access to the front of the building.

Library Media Center

The elementary school library will be relocated to provide direct access to a new outdoor courtyard. A variety of fixed, mobile, and soft seating, faux tree ceiling clouds, and an expanded English as a New Language (ENL) classroom located next to the space will support an inspiring, flexible environment for young learners.

Food Science + Agriculture

The food science and agriculture classrooms at the middle school will be renovated and expanded to integrate new student opporunities, including a working greenhouse, proper plant growth systems, and visual connectivity between spaces to support a true farm-to-table learning environment.

STEAM Programming

STEAM learning is an important aspect of the project to support the district's desired program. To place a greater focus on STEAM, a new technology addition at the high school will create an integrated woodshop and computer design lab, allowing students to engage in hands-on learning from design through fabrication.

Cafeteria

The existing woodshop will be relocated to make way for a two-tiered cafeteria and servery lline with access to an outdoor dining area, concession window, and mobile serving line for outdoor events.

Music

The high school cafeteria will be renovated into a new band room with increased instrument lockers, general storage, office space, and practice rooms. Renovations to the existing music room will provide an enlarged space dedicated for choral instruction.

Project Scope

The multi-phased capital project will also address high priority infrastructure upgrades that were identified in the district’s most recent Building Condition Survey, including site and parking improvements, HVAC system upgrades, plumbing, electrical and lighting improvements, and a roof replacement at Pawling Middle School. CSArch is working with Energia to develop an Energy Performance Contract that will fund $1.9 million in energy efficiency and critical infrastructure improvements. To support an increased outdoor seating capacity during athletic events, a new parking lot will provide 80 spaces between the middle and high school.
