Building Designer/Intern Architect


Overview

CSArch, an A/E firm with offices in Albany and Newburgh, NY is currently seeking a full-time Building Designer/Intern Architect for the Albany office. Ideal candidate should have 3-5 years of experience and be on their path to licensure. The successful candidate should possess an Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree in Architecture. The candidate must have at least 3 years of Revit experience. This person develops design and technical solutions under the direction and supervision of an architect. Assignments may include higher level work for training/development purposes.

Core Duties

  • Performs architectural assignments including preparation of plans, elevations, sections, details and schedules.
  • Takes field measurements and documents existing building conditions to develop or modify base plans for a new project.
  • Researches codes and products. Becomes familiar with SED, NYS building/fire codes and ADA guidelines.
  • Attends in-house team meetings and takes meeting minutes. Attends construction meetings with project architect / construction administrator at various intervals throughout construction.
  • Assists project architect/construction administrator during the construction process. Evaluates contractors’ submittals and shop drawings to determine if they meet contract specifications.  Makes limited decisions under direction of Project Architect about product types and finishes. Prepares submittals for return to contractor.
  • Under the direction of the Project Architect, spends time at job sites to observe construction, makes notes of irregularities or lack of adherence to contract documents, creates punch lists, and interfaces with contractors and clients.
  • Assists Project Architect with fundamental management tasks such as budget and schedule.
  • Has started documenting progress with Architectural Experience Program (AXP) and is working toward meeting required core competencies. May be in the process of completing applicable sections of the ARE.
  • Adheres to and implements firm-wide contract documentation procedures and standards.

Qualifications

  • Licensure Requirements: Unlicensed (expectation to be in the process of completing the ARE)

  • Experience: Minimum three (3) years Building Designer/Intern Architect I or related experience

  • Computer Skills: Revit- minimum of 3 years experience and other design/presentation software programs

  • Excellent written, verbal and visual communication skills

  • Detail oriented, highly organized, self-motivated, accurate, work well under pressure, ability to follow directions and ask questions.

  • 40+ hours M-F; overtime as necessary to meet deadlines, travel, driving, occasional lifting/carrying up to 40 lbs. Site observations may involve outdoor weather, year-round, moving mechanical equipment, climbing ladders/scaffolding and observing high area construction activities. Noise level is often loud. Background check may be required. Requires use of hardhat, construction boots, and possibly other safety equipment as required on a construction site.
