City School District of Albany Cuts Ribbon on Albany High School

8.27.2025

Representing CSArch’s single largest project to date, the redesign and expansion of Albany High School is officially complete. To unveil the fourth and final phase and celebrate the nearly decade long project, CSArch joined Albany administration, faculty, students, and community members in a ribbon cutting ceremony on August 26th.

“The completion of the final phase of rebuilding Albany High School represents so much more than the completion of a new school,” said Joseph Hochreiter, Superintendent of the City School District of Albany. “It’s the culmination of the community’s hard-earned support for our vision of what public education looks like in our city.”

Check out the recap video from the ribbon cutting ceremony on August 26th.

The fourth phase, which reached completion in August 2025, focused on renovating 19 existing general classrooms and four science labs to create the Citizenship Academy, the last of five academic communities focused on delivering targeted programming to students. This phase also created a new culinary lab and barbering classroom as part of the school’s expanded CTE programs and provided new maker spaces and technology labs to support Project Lead the Way.

Originally approved by voters in February 2016, the comprehensive and transformative project to rebuild Albany High School was the result of an extensive planning process involving community members, faculty, students, parents, and administration to imagine and plan for a future-focused, 21st century school building while accommodating a projected enrollment increase to 3,000 students.

Encompassing renovations to approximately 300,400 sf of existing space and nearly 200,000 sf of new construction, the project was completed in four phases:

      • Phase 1 constructed a three-story, 120,000-square-foot academic building that opened in February 2020.
      • Phase 2 constructed a new two-story, 39,000-square-foot music and fine arts addition in January 2021.
      • Phase 3 included the renovation and expansion of the auditorium, a new library/media center, and several new spaces to support CTE programs.
      • Phase 4, completed this summer, included a full renovation of the original academic building, an expanded cafeteria and kitchen, and additional CTE spaces.
