High School Students Complete Internship Program at CSArch

CSArch continues to partner with local high schools to offer internships to students interested in exploring a career in architecture. Our internship program focuses on creating opportunities for our student interns to hone their skills, gain valuable real-life experience, and enhance their education.

This semester, CSArch welcomed three student interns, Susan Rahimi from Watervliet CSD and Aleck Isbester and Siona Schuerholz from Schodack CSD, each with a strong interest in pursuing a career in architecture. For the past several months, Susan, Aleck and Siona have worked closely with CSArch program coordinators Elizabeth Brutsch and Bill Preskenis to learn the basics of architectural design – hand drawing, precedent research, and mini model building, as well as develop their own unique designs using the Autodesk Revit software. Throughout the semester, each student worked on a design project based on their personal interests.

Each student presented their final designs to CSArch staff and school faculty members:

  • Susan Rahimi created a café/bookstore located off the Rail Trail in Watervliet. The building responded to the needs of the local community and Susan's love of reading.
  • Aleck Isbester designed a Japanese inspired Zen retreat near his hometown.
  • Siona Schuerholz created a dream home for a young family moving into the Capital Region.

Our internship program gives students the opportunity to experience the day-to-day work environment at CSArch. Students learn how to collaborate in a team environment and gain valuable experience using Revit to develop concept designs. CSArch is proud when a student leaves the program feeling positive about the future and inspired to pursue a career in architecture. In fact, several student interns have later rejoined the CSArch team as full-time building designers.
