Menands School District Breaks Ground On Capital Project

11.1.2018

Menands School District celebrated the start of a new capital project in a ground-breaking ceremony held on Tuesday, October 30, 2018. Joined by local dignitaries and school board members, Menands Superintendent Dr. Maureen Long addressed the local news and community members, highlighting the major components of the additions, renovations, and reorganization of the existing facilities.

“As most of us know, Menands is an incredibly unique and special school and community” stated Dr. Long. “It is because of the support and vision of this community that we have arrived at this moment.  A moment that will, for years to come, positively impact the lives of the children of Menands.”

Menands School District, which houses grades K-8, seeks to enhance educational opportunities for the district’s students. To accomplish this goal, Menands has partnered with CSArch, who will reorganize the school to define a central core of shared support services and distinguish three new learning communities. The new configuration is intended to nurture strong relationships among faculty and students and fully leverage those connections throughout the 10-year student experience at Menands.

Three building additions totaling 9,920 square feet will be constructed to make each environment unique, and 22,000 square feet of interior renovations will accommodate key components for 21st century learning. Small group meeting rooms and extended learning areas will be added to create more collaborative work space. Other improvements include a new main school entrance with secure vestibule, roofing work, a new building sprinkler system, and mechanical, electrical and plumbing system upgrades.
