According to the jury:

“The exterior façade of the media center projects a strong and compelling sense of monumentality, reminiscent of Italian rationalist projects from the past. The building’s elegant beauty, broad transparency, and heroic structure offer a welcoming and timeless face for the public domain.

The interior spaces are also very well-conceived in their keen ability to offer an exciting range of experiential spaces that accommodate varying scales of occupation and program. Although deceptively simple, the building is really quite rich and sophisticated in accomplishing its larger design objectives.”

CSArch’s approach to designing the library addition and renovation project was driven by the goal to more closely match the school district’s STEAM instructional programming by addressing new student needs, catering to various learning styles, and combining social and educational experiences.

“[The library] truly is the learning and social hub of our school,” said Squier in a tweet about the award. The AIA Eastern NY Design Awards is a local architecture awards program that highlights the excellence of its members’ creations, bestowing on them the much-deserved recognition for their remarkable contributions to the built environment. The event took place at the Opalka Gallery at the Sage Colleges in Albany, New York.
