What is your philosophy on team leadership?
We hire great people at CSArch and it's my responsibility to recognize the value each team member brings to a project. I strive to create teams that merge complementary skillsets and talents and then empower those teams to execute the work. When you empower your employees, they become invested. I find when people feel like they are part of something bigger than themselves, they care more. And when you really care, it shows in the work, in the client relationship, and in the growth of the individual.
What is the essence of good architecture?
Successful architecture positively impacts people, how they experience space, and how it makes them feel. It's about the right kind of light and materials, the way people move, and the interplay between the building systems and external environment.
When did you know you wanted to be an architect?
I started thinking about being an architect as a kid. I liked building construction, sketching and drawing. I realized early through my passion to combine design and construction that I could make a career out of architecture.
What is life like outside the office?
I love working with my hands, playing tennis, hiking, canoeing... anything to stay active. I have a deep appreciation for ensuring our work is having as minimal a footprint as we can on the environment.
