CAPITAL PROJECT

Coxsackie-Athens CSD

CAPITAL PROJECT

Coxsackie-Athens Central School District’s capital project modernized school facilities to more closely match the district’s STEAM programming goals by addressing new student needs, catering to various learning styles, and combining social and educational experiences.

Library Media Center

Today’s students gravitate towards flexible spaces that best suit their immediate study needs. The new library media center is an evolution into a more social, diverse learning area where 21st century learning activities take place.

The Coxsackie-Athens Student Help (CASH) Bar offers students and faculty a designated area for technology assistance.

Soft, flexible seating, and plenty of power outlets support varied learning modalities at the library.

The design provides ample space with places for both individual and collaborative study.

Mobile furniture, whiteboards, and bookcases are easily reconfigured to accommodate a variety of events and meeting sizes.

Perforated panels, solar shades, and various glazing types help filter direct sunlight and reduce glare within the room.

The media center appears flexible, open, and inviting. The minimal yet impressively impactful façade extension not only adds a contemporary, timeless, and elegant beauty to the building but also blends with the existing buildings seamlessly."

21st Century Learning

A new makerspace encourages hands-on creativity and problem solving. Students gather in this space to engage in experiential projects that inspire their natural curiosity and ability to solve problems.

Natural Daylighting

The exterior façade includes large windows that allow natural light to brighten the entire space. The design enhances natural light, carefully considering how it enters and illuminates the space to provide a positive physiological effect for students.

On October 6th, 2018, Coxsackie-Athens CSD held an Open House and Ribbon Cutting ceremony to unveil the new Library Media Center and other spaces at the District.

Project Scope

Coxsackie-Athens Central School District’s $15.6 million capital project modernized the school’s facilities to create 21st Century learning environments for students. Renovated spaces were needed to more closely match the district’s STEAM instructional programming goals by addressing new student needs, catering to various learning styles, and combining social and educational experiences.

At the center of the campus, an existing building was reconstructed and expanded to house a new high school library media center. The library is an evolution into a more social, diverse learning area where 21st Century learning activities take place. The library media center is the “living room” of their school, offering comfortable spaces where students can relax, study, or socialize.
