CAPITAL PROJECT

The City School District of New Rochelle partnered with CSArch to undertake a $106.5 million, multi-phase capital improvement project to address aging infrastructure across all district school facilities.

Throughout the construction schedule, and especially during tight summer construction periods, CSArch is regularly onsite and is proactive to resolve issues and keep the projects moving on schedule."

Exterior Envelope

To ensure the longevity of district buildings, several of which are historic, CSArch replaced slate and EPDM roofing, masonry, windows, and exterior doors at nearly all 10 schools.

Site Design

Athletic field replacements, parking lot upgrades, and improvements to sidewalks, concrete stairs, and walkways improved overall building sites.

Elementary School Playgrounds

The health and safety of all students was a primary focus of the capital project, which called for playground replacements at the district's 7 elementary schools.

Planetarium

Housed within a cylindrical shaped building, the high school's planetarium supports a unique program of astronomy and science-based courses. CSArch provided renovations to upgrade the existing space with new seating, carpeting, projector technology, and controls.

Building Infrastructure

Building infrastructure improvements included replacement of HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems. Oil tanks were replaced and new generators installed.

Library Renovation

Following a flood that caused significant water damage, CSArch completed an emergency flood rehabilitation project, which included a gut renovation of the high school library to provide new finishes, furniture, and flooring for a more flexible, modernized, and inviting space.

Project Scope

Following findings from the 2015 building conditon survey that revealed unsatisfactory ratings for all 10 school buildings, the City School District of New Rochelle underwent a four-phased capital project including exterior envelope, site, infrastructure, health and safety, and educational improvements.

Work at New Rochelle High School provided athletic field, parking lot, masonry, roofing, and infrastructure improvements, as well as several interior educational and health/safety upgrades. Work at Isaac E. Young Middle School included exterior restoration, roof repair and improvements to the loading dock. All 7 elementary schools received playground replacements to maximize student safety and provide improved outdoor play facilities. A new turf field at Columbus Elementary School will enhance physical education programming and provide a shared athletic space for local organizations.

At the end of the project, the most recent update of the district's building condition survey revealed satisfactory ratings for all 10 schools.
